St. Stephen\’s School is an independent, non-denominational, coeducational day and boarding school which offers an educational program from grade 9 through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. A post-graduate year is also available (grade13). The School opened in 1964. The school year comprises 2 semesters which extend from late August to mid-June. Organization: The School is governed by a Board of Trustees, which meets in both Rome and New York. The Rome-based Trustees function as an Executive Committee. The School is recognized under Italian law and is also incorporated in the State of Connecticut as a non-profit, tax-exempt institution.

Curriculum: The curriculum is that of a U.S. college-preparatory independent school. The School offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma and several Advanced Placement courses. The language of instruction is English. French, Spanish, and Italian are taught as mother tongue and second language courses. Course offerings include English Language and Literature, Mathematics (Algebra through Calculus), Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, Computer Studies, Classics, History of Art, U.S. History, European History, Roman Topography, Contemporary History, Medieval and Renaissance History, Islamic History, Economics, Creative Writing, Painting and Drawing, Sculpture, Music Theory, Drama, Photography (black & white and digital), Contemporary Dance, and Chorus. The School is a testing site for the IB, the AP, ACT, SSAT, and the PSAT. The School is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Council of International Schools.
